How To Maintain Your Vacuum Cleaner?
To avoid unnecessary service calls, check the bag, belt and brush roll often.
Consult your owner's manual. Turn off switch and unplug vacuum cleaner before
servicing vacuum cleaner. Belt pulley can become hot during normal use. To prevent
injury, avoid touching the motor pulley when checking the belt.
-Brush roll
As the brush roll turns, it agitates the dirt out of the carpet and combs the
carpet nap. Hair and threads collect on the brush roll from normal use. To keep
your vacuum working at peek performance, remove these from the brush roll. The
brushes must touch the carpet to clean properly. Test brushes length by holding
a business card or credit card against the under side of the vacuum cleaner over
the brush roll. If the brushes don't touch the business card or credit card replace
the brushes strips or brush roll depending on your make and model. (refer to owner's
manual)
-Brush roll belt (belt)
The belt turns the brush roll to agitate the dirt out of the carpet and combs
the carpet nap. Check the belt to make sure that it is in good condition. Check
for cracks, tears, or loss of tension. hair or threads may wind around brush roll
or belt pulley. Replace the belt. Remove any threads or hair. A build up could
cause the belt to slip.
-Disposable paper bags (bag)
The bag's job is to trap dirt. As the bag traps dirt it also must exhaust air
out. If the bag becomes clogged so that there is no exhaust, the vacuum cleaner
will not be able to pick up, no matter how powerful the motor. If you vacuum fine
particles such as carpet fresheners, plaster dust, or powders, you will need to
change you bag more often to keep you vacuum cleaner working at peak performance.
What are the utilities and benefits of Wet/Dry Utility vacuums?
There are times when you face special cleaning needs which your household vacuum
cleaner just isn't designed to handle. These include picking up water or large
particles of dirt or debris. The wet/dry utility vacuum, alias shop-vac, comes
to the rescue with its special capabilities. This breed of vacuum cleaner has
been around for many years, often setting in a corner of the basement or shop
waiting for those times of special need.
You may be tempted to use one of these units to do you regular household cleaning
instead of using a vacuum cleaner designed for that task. While these units are
designed to do some special tasks like water pickup, cleaning large size dirt
and debris and blowing grass and leaves, they typically are not as powerful nor
filter as well as most household type vacuum cleaners. The wet/dry utility vac
is a specialty type of vacuum cleaner which does what it is designed to do very
well. Likewise, the household vacuum cleaner is designed to clean you house very
well week after week, year after year. Each has its own arena where it will perform
well, easing your cleaning work load for years to come.
What are the utilities and benefits of Two Motor Upright Vacuums?
An upright type of vacuum cleaner is a self-contained unit which has the motor,
main cleaning nozzle, filtering system, etc. all built together in an overall
vertical shape. All upright types today have motor driven revolving brush rolls
and are used primarily for cleaning carpeted floors. They are pushed forward and
pulled backward in front of the user by gripping the narrow handle extending upward
from the main case.
"Two-motor" as well as other "clean-air" uprights typically produce better performance
when using on-board attachments. They also have significantly longer fan and motor
lives compared to most "dirty-air" uprights with on-board attachments. Operating
noise levels are typically much lower than from their "dirty-air" counterparts.
Having a separate motor drive the brush roll, some using a cogged or geared type
of belt, can enhance the carpet cleaning ability of "clean-air" uprights. The
two-motor design is hard to identify on some models since they look so similar
to the one-motor "clean-air" uprights. Other models have a more narrow connector
between the main body and carpet cleaning nozzle, making them easier to identify.
Most will be identified as having two motors somewhere on the cleaner or its literature.
What are the utilities and benefits of Electric Brooms?
While the full sized upright, power team and canister vacuum cleaners do the bulk
of the cleaning in the home, there are often voids which can be filled by the
lightweight electric broom. These include the need to frequently clean the kitchen
or bathroom floor as well as to quickly and easily pickup those unexpected little
spills. Electric brooms come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. The typical
electric broom is somewhat tubular in shape with a long handle extending from
its top so it can be easily pushed around the floor to clean it. The cleaning
nozzle is typically attached directly to the bottom and often incorporates wheels
to aid in its movement. This category can be subdivided into two basic types,
the corded ones and the battery operated ones. Each type has its special place
in helping you with your house cleaning chores.
An electric broom will enable you to perform some types of cleaning tasks quicker
and easier than when using most full sized vacuum cleaners. Cordless electric
brooms are convenient for cleaning your kitchen, bath or those unexpected little
spills very quickly and easily but are not intended for extended use. The next
time you drag your full sized vacuum cleaner out of the closet to quickly clean
your kitchen or bath, stop a moment to consider whether an electric broom would
clean them quicker and easier.
What are the utilities and benefits of Hand Held Vacuums?
While the full sized upright, power team and canister vacuum cleaners do the bulk
of the cleaning in the home, there are often voids which can be filled by the
lightweight, hand held vacuum cleaner. These include the need to quickly and easily
pickup those unexpected little spills as well as the need to efficiently clean
upholstered furniture, drapes and carpeted stair steps. The latter use greatly
reduces the risk of injury from struggling to use a full sized vacuum cleaner
in the limited space on the stairs. Hand held vacuum cleaners come in a variety
of colors, shapes and sizes. This category can be subdivided two ways: 1) corded
vs. battery operated and 2) straight suction vs. suction with a revolving brush
roll. Each type has its special place in helping you with your house cleaning
chores.
A hand held vacuum cleaner will enable you to perform some types of cleaning tasks
quicker, easier and more effectively than when using most full sized vacuum cleaners,
especially when using a corded hand held vacuum with a motor driven revolving
brush. These tend to perform like a miniaturized upright vacuum cleaner when cleaning
carpeted stairs while reducing the risk of injury from accidental falls. Cordless
hand held vacuum cleaners are convenient for cleaning those unexpected little
spills very quickly and easily but are not intended for extended use. The next
time you're cleaning your stairs, furniture, drapes or car interior, stop a moment
to consider whether a hand held vacuum cleaner would clean them better and easier
than your full sized vacuum cleaner.
What are the utilities and benefits of Steam (Hot Water) Extractors?
Cleaning soiled carpet fibers can be a real challenge since regular vacuuming
does not remove particles which adhere to the fibers. The traditional way of cleaning
the carpet fibers is the carpet shampooer which creates a foam that is worked
into the carpet to clean it. While this method is still being used, the industry
has been promoting the "steam" (hot water) extractors to a greater extent. There
are also a few companies which sell or rent scrubbing machines which work a moist
compound into the carpets to clean them.
Hot water extractors work best when used to periodically clean carpets which are
lightly soiled. Performance on a heavily soiled or stained carpet can be disappointing
at best. For more heavy duty cleaning needs, look to the professional carpet cleaning
services in your area. Their heavy duty commercial equipment is much more powerful
and able to produce more satisfactory results.
What are the utilities and benefits of Two Motor Power Team ?
A Two-Motor Power Team is a type of vacuum cleaner that teams a canister type
vacuum cleaner with a motorized power nozzle. The powerful brushing action of
the power nozzle, combined with the strong suction of the "clean-air" suction
motor, enables a power team to perform very well deep cleaning carpets as well
as cleaning all other types of surfaces. A central vacuum system with a motorized
power nozzle is a unique type of power team in that the main canister part is
mounted on a basement or garage wall.
A two-motor power team vacuum cleaner is very versatile, providing superior suction
for use with the attachments. Since it includes a motorized power nozzle it will
clean all surfaces, including carpeted floors, effectively. Power nozzles which
use a non-slip cog type belt maintain fairly consistent cleaning performance over
the full life of the belt. Power teams provide an excellent alternative to using
an upright with on-board attachments. Also, extremely high filtration efficiencies
can be obtained with HEPA filtration systems.
My Vacuum is not picking up
Turn off switch and unplug vacuum cleaner before servicing vacuum cleaner.
Belt pulleys can become hot during normal use. To prevent injury, avoid touching
the motor pulley when checking the belt.
- Check to see if brush roll is turning. If brush roll is not turning, remove
brush roll. (Refer to your owner's manual). Make sure your brush roll turns
free. If brush roll does not turn free, try to free up by removing hair or
threads that may have wound around brush roll or belt pulley. A build up of
old rubber, threads or hair could cause the belt to slip. If you cannot free
brush roll replace brush roll and or bearings and belt.
- Check the belt to make sure that it is in good condition. Check for cracks,
tears, hour glass shaping, shiny or groves on the under side of belt and flat
spots or loss of tension. Caution belt pulleys can become hot duing normal
use. To prevent injury, avoid touching the motor pulley when checking the
belt. If belt is worn, replace it. (Refer to your owner's manual).
- Check for worn brushes.
- The brushes must touch the carpet to clean properly. Test brushes length
by holding a business card or credit card against the under side of the
vacuum cleaner over the brush roll. If the brushes don't touch the business
card or credit card. Replace the brush strips or brush roll depending
on your make and model. (Refer to your owner's manual).
- The brushes may become soft or worn at a angle and still appear long
enough, but just lay on the carpet and don't clean properly. Replace the
brush strips or brush roll depending on your make and model. (Refer to
your owner's manual). Brush strips or brush rolls last from one year to
three years depending on the amount of vacuuming you do.
- When you replace the brush strips or brush roll always replace the belt.
My Vacuum cleaner vibrates and/or makes a loud noise
Turn off switch and unplug vacuum cleaner before servicing vacuum cleaner.
Belt pulley can become hot during normal use. To prevent injury, avoid touching
the motor pulley when checking the belt.
- Usually something large or hard was picked up in your vacuum cleaner and
has broken a blade off of your impeller (fan). When this happens, you can
replace the impeller (fan). But this is usually a difficult task and it is
our advise to take you vacuum to an authorized service repair center nearest
you.
My machine blows out dirt instead of vacuuming it up
Turn off switch and unplug vacuum cleaner before servicing vacuum cleaner.
Belt pulley can become hot during normal use. To prevent injury, avoid touching
the motor pulley when checking the belt.
- Check you bag to make sure your bag is not overly full. If you just installed
a new bag check the bag to make sure you have the proper bag for your make
and model of vacuum cleaner. Next check to make sure you have properly installed
your new bag. (Refer to your owner's manual).
- Check all openings to make sure there is nothing obstructing the suction
of you vacuum. Sometimes a clog may be deep inside your vacuum, so you will
need to take you vacuum to an authorized service center.
Will lowering the vacuum height closer to the carpet pick-up more? Running your vacuum too low on the carpet height position makes a vacuum clean
less, and puts strain on your belts. (HINT) Start your carpet height on its highest position, turn the vacuum on and
move down until you hear the vacuum change pitch. That's the right carpet height.
What causes vacuums to be loud or noisy?
a. Broken fan
b. Bad brush roller
c. Bad motor bearings
d. Vacuum clogged up
Does higher amperage mean more power?
Not necessarily. Amperage denotes how much electricity is being used. Some vacuums
use less electricity but have more powerful motors.
What is the reasons for low or no pick up ?
-Belt stretched out
-Bag too full
-Clogged hose or nozzle intake
-Broken fan.
-Clogged filter
Why is my vacuum loud?
-The fan is broken.
-Bearings in the roller have gone bad.
-motor has gone bad.
